Historical Novels in Gujarati By The Great Gujarati Author Late Shri Harilal Upadhyay Historical Novels in Gujarati By Shri Harilal Upadhyay...

It is very tough to write historical novels. As the author have to stick to the true events happend and all the authentic matters regarding the same, as well as the incidents should be able to glue the reader to the novel itself. Late Shri Harilal Upadhyay have wrote a large number of Historical Novels which mainly can be classified into the following categories:
1. Sooryavansh (Suryavansh) :

As Lord Shri RAM belongs to this vansh, the history is more famous in the same regards. Lord shri RAM was not only a great warrior, great king but he is also a great (might be greatest is the better word) human being. The way he shown the society to live with ethics and morals is considered as the guide to the society forever. The Ideal Republic is known as "RAM RAJYA". Lord Shri RAM has great ancesstors and they all are well known and respected. On the other hand his successor also contain the qulities and have prooved themselves as Icons.
They are spreaded and lived around the area of India which is currently the state of Rajasthan. Only some of the great names are, Bapa Rawal, Maharana Pratap, Maharana Kumbha, Rooprani Padmini, Gora-Badal the warrior duo, Maharana Sangramsih or Sanga, Deshgaurav Bhamashah, NariRatna PannaDai,... oh, the great land of Rajasthan have given so many legends, might be my memory and this page both running in short to mention them.
Late Shri Harilal Upadhyay have explored the era and represented the facts of the same in a set of books mentioned below:

2. Chandravansh :

As Sooryavansh is famous for Lord Shri RAM, Chandravansh on the other hand is well known for Lord Shri Krishna; the most versatile person ever been on the earth (might be in universe). The greatest poetry of the world The GEETA (Shrimad BhagvadGeeta) is one of the best presents Lord Krisha have blessed the world with. From Chandra himself to the successor of him living in various areas of the world (but mostly found in the area of Saurashtra - Gujarat -India); Chandravansh have so many great persons associated with. Yadu, Pururava, Bharat (the great king, in whose memory the republic of india is named as BHARAT or BHARATVARSH), DevVrat (known as Bheeshma due to his unbreakable vow), Balram, Pandavas and Dhartrashtras (Famous as Kauravas),... here also the list can be evergrowing...
Though the history of chandravansh after the war of Mahabharat is not much known (at least by laymans), a grandson Of Lord krishna named Aniruddha (son of Pradyumna), has been kidnapped to Miser (Egypt) by Chitralekha for her best friend Okha (or Usha) who was a princess and daughter of Banasura and fascinated from Aniruddha (this tale is popular as OKHA-HARAN and people used to read it once at least during CHAITRA mas and do not take SALT in eating for entire month - or as much time as possible in the month). It is said that the heirs of Aniruddha has been stayed there in Miser only and have continued to keep walking on tracks set by their ancestors. After great warrior king Devendra, their sons have to run away from there (it was the time of rise of Islam) and via Kandhar, they have reached to Sindh. After staying for so long in Sindh when Mod and Manai have to run away to Kutch (or Kachchh), due to killing of his brother (Son of Jam Lakho Dhuraro and Sonal) by their own hand. The bloodline of Chandravansh is again Back in Gujarat. From Kachchh they have been shifted towards Saurashtra and established a new city, Navanagar (or Nawanagar) known as Jamnagar today.
This is the circle of time (Kaal Chakra) who took them from where they have seperated, before many years Aniruddha have been kidnapped from the Castle of Dwarika , which today is coming in territory of district of Jamnagar. This entire history is well documented in ShauryaPratapi Chandravansh (the greatest research work done by Late Shri Harilal Upadhyay, in my opinion). He loved chandravansh specially, might be because it belongs to his native (Gujarat), and he came in touch of Royal families of chandravansh.
The time of the JAMs, Naag and Janu, Jeso Vajir, Jam Tamachi, Hardholji, Lakho Fulani, Sat Sangh, Rajraisinhji, war of Bhoocharmori, KakaBhai (Halaji) from Paddhari, Kavi Ishardan... is explored in these historical novels. This great work in Gujarati Literature is found in the books mentioned below (and are mainly focused on Gujarat):
The book PADTA GADH NA PADCHHAYA (Shadows Of The Distroying Castle) which is spreaded into two parts is also must to mention, because it contains the Historical stuff about PADDHARI (the town far 27 KM from RAJKOT city GUJARAT -INDIA); where he lived a part of his childhood (before going to MUMBAI). Then once again he have shifted to PADDHARI in 1984 and he lived there forever.
3. Modh Brahmins :

While researching for the historical evidences and truths about the great SURYAVANSH and CHANDRAVANSH; he decided to research about BRAHMINS also and especially about his own ancestors' history. He research a lot and lightened the history of MODH BRAHMINS. He wrote two great books about them, and we all modh brahmins will always be thankful to him for such a great work. The books are:
